Defining a digital strategy for its organization questions the environmental impact of the digital products developed.

Context

Digital-related activities are responsible for more than 4% of the global greenhouse effect - more than civil aviation (2 to 3%) - and are constantly increasing (source: Lean ICT – Pour une sobriété numérique, The Shift Project, july 2019). Omnipresence of connected objects, massive use of online videos, deployment of 5G... With the development of digital technology, the sector's environmental responsibility is intensifying. Meanwhile, the digital environmental awareness of citizens is growing. According to the Digital Barometer study published in November 2019, carried out jointly by the Autorité de régulation des télécoms (Arcep), the Conseil général de l'économie (CGE) et the Agence du numérique, 62% of French people see the Internet and computers as a threat to the environment (against 47% in 2009). 80% of them wish to reduce the ecological footprint of their equipment and 69% feel ready to change their practices.
