Tips for effective communication:

  • Use silence as a resource: silence can be a key resource that you can use to gather ideas or even to stimulate your interlocutor to elaborate. Silence is a strategic way of communicating and should not be used to make your interlocutor feel inferior or difficult.
  • Try to use words, gestures and voice congruently: Not only do we communicate with words, but also with gestures and voice. When communicating be careful to use them consistently and congruently.
  • Pay attention to the feedback from the other person: In communication, the most important thing is not the communicative intention, i.e. what you want to say, but the response (feedback) that the other person gives you.
  • Use questions to understand and be understood: Questions can help you to understand what the other person is getting from your message and also to find out more about their mental models.
  • Use active listening: Communication is based on a mutual exchange of ideas, thoughts and emotions, so don't see it as a one-sided action, learn to listen actively.
  • Do not immediately judge what you hear: If you learn to wait and not judge immediately, you will respect the person in front of you more and you will be able to create more empathy and harmony. Don't be influenced by your own interpretations and judgements.
  • Learn to put yourself in someone else's shoes to increase empathy: Observe, welcome and reflect the communication style of your interlocutor, especially at the beginning of a conversation, learn to put yourself in his shoes. Focus on them and learn to use some of their words. Respect their emotions.
  • There is no absolute and objective truth: There is no absolute truth and no single meaning of things, everything is subjective and interpreted according to one's own reference model made up of personal experiences, beliefs and values.
